Choir Bogd Uul

371

Choir Bogd Uul is a national park that has preserved its centuries-old history. It is a mountain made of granite 1686 m above sea level. Since 1923, the mountain has been called Otsol Sansar Uul in Khan Khentii aimag. Researchers have noted that Otsol is the Tibetan word for "bright light," but the name appears to have originated later in the writing of the Sutra. Choir Bogd Uul was placed under local special protection in 1997 and under state special protection in 2011 as a nature reserve. Currently, more than 200 argali sheep live in the mountain. Rare plants, argali, ibex, wolf, fox, rabbit, eagle and Saker falcon are abundant. Choir Bogd Uul has historical, cultural and religious monuments.
